Email bouncy bouncy
So a friend of mine was telling me that when his company sent mailshots half the emails were bouncing back.
Cleverly I was immediately pointing him towards his SPF records in the DNS. I was like I bet it’s not set up!
SO he comes back to me and his IT Helpdesk confirmed it was in fact set up – but then I took a look at some of the bounce rejections, their SPF failures were pointing at an IP address that the SPF did not reference thus most of their email was bouncing.
an SPF record Expample
The SPF Record is a TEXT record, (so add a TXT record). Don’t include anything in the name field. In this example I’ve got the SPF record for 20i.com.
v=spf1 include:spf.stackmail.com a mx -all
You can also specify IP addresses
v=spf1 ip4:x.x.x.x
By getting this right you’ll find that mail servers will be happier to accept your email than if the spf record is missing or wrong.
